Xingzi Gu was born in 1995 to parents of painter in Nantong, China. They spent their childhood in Nanjing learning painting academically, and their teenage years were spent in Auckland, New Zealand learning English and Art. They furthered their studies at the School of the Art Institute Chicago (BFA, 2018) and New York University (MFA, 2023). Xingzi’s work often revolves around themes of intimacy, love and myth, rendering figures and their emotional landscapes. Recent solo exhibitions include Lubov (2024); Anonymous Gallery (2022, performance event); 80WSE, Project Space (2022); Recent group exhibitions include Clearing (2024), Island Gallery (2023) and Stilllife (2024). Their work has been featured in Artforum, Hyperallergic, Interview Magazine, Elephant Magazine and W Magazine. They previously have participated in residencies at Vermont Studio Center (fellowship), Chicago Artist Coalition, and Saas-Fee Summer Institute of Art.
