Valerie Keane creates layered sculptures, suspended in space and that verge on the bodily. The materials - stainless steel, aluminum, acrylic, and fiberboard- seek a hyperpop aesthetic but take form as ghostly, shifting and undulating beings that give glimpses of a reflection but never the whole and stable self.

Keane's works are highly engineered but the hewn materials often take on organic shapes. Her work bridges the technological construction of self with the ever present void of being. They are always in flux, projecting an extension of the self through the technological but refusing fixity. Moving between form and formlessness, from the parts to the whole and back again, Keane's works are a contemporary manifestation of the perennial bind we find when looking into the void.
