This year's benefit auction and exhibition, "The World Is The Work", brings together artists, curators, and art lovers from The Drawing Center's community. Each guest curator will present a selection of five or more works on paper by artists they admire. Works will be on view at The Drawing Center from October 7 through October 11, and will be available for purchase through a silent auction benefiting The Drawing Center and participating artists. Bidding will begin on September 29 at 12:00 pm ET and end on October 14 at 12:00 pm ET. The Drawing Center rbrickman@drawingcenter.org

Ernesto Rivera (b. 1983, Dominican Republic) is a Brooklyn-based artist whose practice centers on drawing and installation. His work explores fragmentary processes, language, and the traces of everyday materials, often moving between drawing, installation, and sculpture. His practice is shaped by the tension between immediacy and distance, examining how materials and cultural references shift when displaced from their original contexts.

 

Rivera holds a BFA in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design, The New School, and studied History and Theory of Design at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Recent exhibitions include Lustrations, a two-person exhibition at Mimo Gallery (April 25–June 1, 2025); a curated group exhibition by Carlos Nuñez at Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (September 27–December 21, 2025); and Rashid, Sheree and Friends at the Richard Rogers Gallery, Château La Coste (July 5–September 6, 2026). Mimo Gallery will present his work at The Armory Show, September 24–27, 2026. Alongside his artistic practice, Rivera works as an archivist.
