This year's benefit auction and exhibition, "The World Is The Work", brings together artists, curators, and art lovers from The Drawing Center's community. Each guest curator will present a selection of five or more works on paper by artists they admire. Works will be on view at The Drawing Center from October 7 through October 11, and will be available for purchase through a silent auction benefiting The Drawing Center and participating artists. Bidding will begin on September 29 at 12:00 pm ET and end on October 14 at 12:00 pm ET. The Drawing Center rbrickman@drawingcenter.org

Pedro Troncoso (b. 1996, Dominican Republic) is a New York–based artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, and sculptural relief. Rooted in his Caribbean heritage and its diasporic conditions, his work examines how identity is restricted through inherited colonial structures. Troncoso approaches identity as a condition continuously negotiated under pressure. His practice combines graphite drawing, painting, and hand-built sculptural elements on wood panels. His sculptural interventions draw from ornamental grilles in colonial architecture, transforming them into a second body:intimate, invasive, and unstable. Through imagined worlds and layered material processes, Troncoso reconfigures these histories, sustaining a tension where the line between imposition and autonomy remains unresolved.

 

Troncoso is the recipient of a 2026 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship in Printmaking/Drawing/Book Arts and the 2026 BronxRecognizes Its Own (BRIO) Award. He also received the Equal Prize at the 31st National Biennial of Visual Arts of theDominican Republic, where his work was acquired into the permanent collection of the Museo de Arte Moderno in SantoDomingo. In 2026, he was named to Forbes 30 Under 30. His work has been presented at NADA Miami, Art Central HongKong, Arrival Art Fair, ComplexCon, and the AXA Art Prize, and featured in Blanc Magazine, Whitewall, and NewAmerican Paintings.
