Marilee Sousie is recognizable for her vivid, playful paintings inspired by the cartoons of the past and modern day. A native of Upstate New York, Marilee Sousie cherished the coloring books given to her, not wanting to “destroy” the original, she began to redraw the pages which developed her eye for the soft shapes and playful designs.
Sousie is a mixed media artist, primarily working in acrylics. She received her MFA from the State University of New York, BFA in fine arts with a BS in Art Education from The College of Saint Rose, after receiving her Associates degree from Hudson Valley Community College and studying abroad in Florence, Italy.
Sousie was the recipient of the Hy Rosen Award for Excellence in Painting and Drawing, the Dr. Arthur Collins ‘48 Purchase Award by the University Art Museum at SUNY Albany and awarded Best in Show at the Arts Center of the Capital Region.
