Joshua Neustein, born in Danzig Poland, is a pioneering conceptual artist and a lifelong draughtsman who has worked in the U.S. and Israel for over four decades. The Metropolitan Museum of Art owns nine such Carbon Copy works. MoMa, Brooklyn Museum and Morgan Library own several Carbon Copy works.
Neustein is known for his environmental installations and Post-minimalist paper works which feature an innovative approach to materials including torn paper, cardboard, and ash. In 1986, Neustein was a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. In 1995, he represented Israel at the 46th Venice Biennale. Neustein has exhibited widely internationally; select exhibitions include his 2012 retrospective, Drawing on the Margins at the Israel Museum, as well as group exhibitions at the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Haus Der Kunst, Munich; and Mary Boone Gallery, Untitled Gallery, David Zwirner Gallery, NY. His works are in major collections.
