Des Lawrence (b. 1970 in Wiltshire, UK) studied at Glasgow School of Art and Goldsmiths College, London. He lives and works in London.
Des Lawrence’s practice includes painting, drawing, text and installation. The principal theme of his work is derived from current newspaper obituaries and the artworks are tributes and memorials to the recently deceased. Recent solo exhibitions include: Oh my absolute complete and utter ever lasting days! at Castor Gallery, London (2023); Works in Black & White at Berggruen Gallery, San Francisco (2023); and Host and Guest at Palfrey Gallery, London (2022).
Lawrence’s artworks are also part of the collections of National Gallery of Victoria, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, The David Roberts Collection, The Wordsworth Trust, and Donaukurier (Munich). The artist was awarded the Abbey Scholarship at the British School in Rome in 2005.
