Chloe Piene is a fine artist known for the primacy of her drawing. Her works are typically anchored in the body and anatomy. Piene’s figurative work has made various and diverse associations with prisoners, love, failure, history, and heroic transformation. She is informed by Northern Renaissance masters, such as Dürer and Hans Baldung Grien, as well as the ink work of the turn of the century artist EM Lilien. She has been lauded worldwide for her unique and penetrating line; her drawings have been frequently exhibited and associated with the work of Egon Schiele and Louise Bourgeois.

Piene received her Bachelor degree in Art History from Columbia University and her Masters of Fine Art at Goldsmiths, London. She has had two person shows with Hans Bellmer and Willem de Kooning. Her work has exhibited worldwide, notably The Albertina, The Centre Pompidou, The Musée Quai Branly, Paris as well as The Martin Gropius Bau, the Gemälde Galerie,Berlin. She is held by collections such as The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, SFMOMA, MOCA, California; the MIA and The Walker Museum, Minneapolis. Her drawings were exhibited alongside those of Egon Schiele under the title “The Naked Woman” at the Leopold Museum, Vienna. Chloe Piene has been reviewed by numerous publications including the New York Times, Frieze, The Figaro, La Liberation, The Los Angeles Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Berliner Zeitung, The Frankfurter Algemeine Zeitung, The Süddeutscher Zeitung, and Vogue US, France, Italy and Poland. Chloe Piene is part of “Vitamin D” Phaidon’s seminal book on drawing. Recently Chloe Piene was nominated for the Guerlain Drawing Prize, in Paris. Chloe Piene lives and works in New York.
