Andrew “Sven” Ohman was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. He currently lives and works in Ridgewood, Queens. Ohman’s practice consists of painting, drawing, jewelry design amongst many other multi media works. His work depicts folk motifs deriving from his Irish and American heritage. Throughout his childhood he spent many summers and winters in Ireland where much of his subject matter was heavily influenced. Ohman’s work takes on a mystical story telling approach and incorporates country homes, landscapes, barns, animals, and trees. His work also pays homage to historical painters and the history of paintings that have come before him. Drawing is a fundamental practice in Ohman's work. All of Ohman’s work starts with a drawing to lay out his ideas. Andrew has appeared in group shows at Anton Kern, 56 Henry, Olney Gleason and held his first solo show at Hopkins Wharf Gallery in North Haven, ME this summer.
