Alexander Gorlizki (b. 1967, London, United Kingdom) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, and maintains a studio in Jaipur, India.

His works on paper originate from a fascination with Indian miniature painting—a tradition he has subverted and synthesized with his own visual language. In 1996, he established Pink City Studio in Jaipur, India, with Riyaz Uddin, a master painter with a perfect command of the miniature technique that originated over 700 years ago. Alexander draws out the iconography, patterns, colours and compositions, and the artworks evolve over months and years of collaborative refinements with Riyaz and his assistants. Drawings are sent back and forth between Jaipur and Brooklyn or are worked on together during Alexander's visits to India.

Alexander has also developed numerous working relationships with artists and craftspeople across a wide range of traditions. These include marble and wood carvers, sand casters, embroiderers, tailors, forgers, spectacle repairers, printers, and graphic designers, as well as a decades-long collaboration with filmmaker and composer Richard Coldman.

Alexander Gorlizki’s work is in several museum collections, including The Cincinnati Museum of Art, The Denver Museum, The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Minneapolis Institute of Art, The Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, The Victoria and Albert Museum, Humboldt Forum, The Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf, the Museum of Art and Photography, Bangalore, India amongst others.
